Plesati Slovenian Dance Group in Ottawa Canada began 2021 with the arrival of some new costume pieces. You are invited to read what they have written about this important event.

Some of our members have grown a lot since we last saw them so we ordered a new Gorenjska style vests and hats. Mr. Pajek from Pajk Klobuki made beautiful custom hats for our boys. We also ordered some dresses, shirts, and socks for our girls that should be arriving soon. This would not have been possible without the support of the Governmental Office for Slovenians Abroad, and we are very grateful to them.  We can’t wait for the opportunity to perform and show off the new costumes.

Our group is still functioning online right now. On Tuesday February 16 the group met for a virtual “Pustna Zabava”. The dancers learned about Kurentovanje traditions as well as Pust, and celebrated with games and live music.

As some restrictions begin to lift in Ottawa we are looking forward to meeting outdoors again for socially distanced practices. As soon as the snow melts, we hope to be practicing outside!

The Office for Slovenes Abroad wishes them to make good use of their new costumes and continue to dance enthusiastically, thus preserving and further strengthening Slovene consciousness in Canada.
