If you are interested in studying in Slovenia, you are welcome to attend the online presentation of Slovenian universities. The presentation prepared by the Study in Slovenia team will be held on Thursday, 18 November, at 2pm (CET) and is intended specifically for Slovenians living abroad.

You will obtain useful information about living and studying in Slovenia, as well as about the benefits of having a student status. You will also have the opportunity to meet representatives of the University of Ljubljana, the University of Maribor, the University of Primorska and the University of Nova Gorica.

The presentation will be in Slovenian.

The U.S. Embassy in Ljubljana and the American Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF) are jointly organizing the Slovenian American Virtual Academic Symposium (SAVAS), which will take place online on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, from 5 PM to 8 PM CET / from 11 AM to 2 PM EDT / from 8 AM to 11 AM PDT

The symposium's main goal is to show examples of highly successful collaborations between the U.S. and Slovenia, briefly present existing support mechanisms, and above all, provide space and extended time for interaction and networking between participants to encourage collaborations.

At the symposium, you will hear from the two outstanding speakers; Erica Johnson Debeljak, American-Slovenian writer and translator, and Janina Golob Deeb, D.M.D, M.S., Associate Professor of Periodontics at the School of Dentistry, Virginia Commonwealth University in the U.S.

We welcome all participants interested in enhancing formal, informal, research, or exchange-focused academic relationships between Slovenia and the U.S. across all levels and substantive areas. Though the symposium is free and open to the academic public, we request that you register in advance until Sunday, June 6, 2021.

The goal is to connect Slovenian entrepreneurs around the world with entrepreneurs in Slovenia. Slovenian Business Club together with Slovenian Global Business Network we wish the Slovenian business diaspora and top entrepreneurs from the homeland to strengthen Slovenia's economic presence around the world

Our first common guest will be Vladimir Dobosch, CEO and co-founder of IPTE. The company employs 870 people and work in the supply of automation solutions and test engineering for the electronic and mechanical industries. He comes from Belgium, but his roots go back to Slovenia - his mother was Slovenian. Mr Dobosch also worked for Alcaltel and before that for Philips.

Sometimes, it only takes one conversation – one idea to connect a culture and unite a community. Even in a country as big as Canada, it is possible to come together as a community and celebrate our Slovenian culture and commemorate the biggest moment in Slovenian heritage – that is, the anniversary of Slovenian independence.

This year Slovenia and Slovenians around the world eagerly prepare in anticipation as 2021 marks the 30^th Anniversary of Slovenian Independence. In addition to celebrating Slovenia’s 30^th Anniversary of Independence, Vseslovenski kulturni odbor [VSKO] and Radio Glas kanadskih Slovencev [RGKS] are also celebrating 30^th Anniversaries. 30 years is a truly notable milestone in our histories – one to be proud of and that should be celebrated.

With such notable accomplishments and anniversaries approaching the Slovenian community in Canada, we knew that it was important Slovenians and Slovenian communities across Canada be recognized and showcased to the rest of the country. Our culture and heritage – the impact and importance of Slovenians in Canada to our histories is significant, and this should be celebrated.

As part of our efforts for 2021 and our year of celebration, Vseslovenski kulturni odbor [VSKO] has created a new and exciting project – To smo mi, kanadski-Slovenci (Spotlight on Slovenians). This project aims to showcase the entire Slovenian community in Canada, primarily focusing on cultural groups and organizations along with businesses. Our goal from this initiative is to provide inspiration – to help us remember our cultural roots and to remind us of where we come from and the impact our community has had on the Slovenian culture in Canada.

By means of short video presentations, community organizations and businesses will present themselves – their histories, greatest accomplishments and important milestones, their membership, their inspiration for inception, along with anything that best showcases who the organization is. Perhaps the most important feature that these videos will focus on is cultural impact, including the impact that organizations have had on the Slovenian community in Canada, along with the impact that Slovenian culture and heritage has had – and continues to have, on our organizations and businesses.

To date, more than 23 Canadian-Slovenian organizations in multiple Canadian provinces have confirmed their participation for “To smo mi, kanadski-Slovenci”. We continue to hope that more organizations and businesses will also join in the coming weeks. Videos will begin airing weekdays starting May 25 and end on June 24. On June 25 we will celebrate Slovenski dan (Slovenian Independence Day) with our annual flag raising at Toronto City Hall and Cultural celebration (virtually).

You are welcome to join us at the University of Ljubljana online presentations, which will be organized on 6th May 2021 in English. We will present the Slovenian educational system, living in Slovenia, the benefits of student's status, and some master and doctoral degree programs.

The University of Ljubljana members (academies and faculties) will also organize information days for master and doctoral degree programs. During the information days, you will find out everything there is to know about our programs, different career options, and student life in Ljubljana. Spend a day attending online events, talking to staff and students, and getting answers to any questions which remain after examining our brochures and website.

Our members (faculties and academies) offer more than 20 summer school courses in 2021 from a wide variety of areas: from economic and business sciences, law, social sciences to art, theology, veterinary and technical sciences. The most traditional ones are the summer school programs organized by the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Arts: the 57^thSeminar of Slovenian Language, Literature and Culture, and the 40^th Summer School of Slovenian Language attracting more Slovenian language enthusiasts from all over the world each year. The U.S. Embassy Slovenia and the American Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF) are jointly organizing The Slovenian American Virtual Academic Symposium (SAVAS), which will take place online on Monday, November 16, 2020, from 5 PM to 8 PM CET / from 11 AM to 2 PM EST / from 8 AM to 11 AM PST.

The SAVAS will bring together professors, administrators, and other academics from both nations interested in enhancing formal, informal, research, or exchange-focused relationships. The symposium's goal is to show examples of highly successful collaborations between the U.S. and Slovenia, introduce available support mechanisms, and enable faculty to meet other faculty in their fields in the U.S. and Slovenia.

We are delighted to announce two outstanding keynote speakers; Robert Jeraj, Ph.D., is a Professor of Medical Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the U.S., and Anja Svetina Nabergoj, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana in Slovenia.

We welcome all participants interested in enhancing formal, informal, research, or exchange-focused academic relationships between Slovenia and the U.S. across all levels and substantive areas. Though the symposium is free and open to the academic public, we request that you register in advance until Friday, November 13, 2020.

The online info day will give you the opportunity to obtain useful first-hand information about studying and living in Slovenia. We will present the Slovenian educational system, student life in Slovenia and all the benefits of the student status.

You will also have the opportunity to meet the representatives of the University of Ljubljana (UL), the University of Maribor (UM), the University of Nova Gorica (UNG) and the University of Primorska (UP).

American Slovenian Education Foundation ASEF published a call for the ASEF Junior Fellows program to visit Slovenia. ASEF Fellowships for students to visit Slovenia is a one-year program, which enables students to do a 10-week work/research visit at a university, company, or a research institute in the area of their field of study/expertise.

Additionally, during the visit, Junior Fellows engage in activities organized by ASEF Society of Fellows, including research projects and collaborations with other Fellows, participation at the events organized by ASEF, leadership and career development workshops, and attend regular public lectures and other events organized by ASEF. Further, Junior Fellows are expected to contribute to the Society and give back to the community under the guidance and mentorship of ASEF.

The deadline for submitting all application materials is December 1, 2020.

On Thursday, November 5, 2020, at 7 pm (CET), you are invited to join them in the webinar to learn more about ASEF Junior Fellowship Visiting Slovenia, and best practices to apply to it. Please sign up for the webinar here.

The ASEF Junior Fellows program provides fellows with comprehensive support, allowing them to focus on their professional development at Slovenia’s top universities, institutes, and companies. The purpose of the fellowship program is to give talented students of Slovenian heritage an opportunity to grow professionally, while also getting to experience Slovenia, its language and culture. The aim is to strengthen research and study exchange between Slovenia and other countries and help those who have an interest in Slovenian culture and want to realize their potential to the fullest.
