Slovenian Australian Academic Association (SAAA) cordially invites you to the 4th SAAA Conference, which will take place for the first time on-line over Zoom on 20 November 2020 between 12pm and 4:30pm Melbourne & Sydney time.
This year’s SAAA conference will be hosted by Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand and will run under the conference theme: “The role of place in an increasingly placeless world”. In Te Reo Māori, the language of the indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand, the word whenua refers to both “land” and “placenta”. It denotes the significance of “place” as a source of life and a direct link to one’s whakapapa (a line of descent from one’s ancestors), where genealogy and identity intersect.
It is an honour to partner again with the Slovenian Australian Chamber of Commerce (SACC), the Association of Slovenes Educated Abroad (VTIS) and the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Canberra. This conference is also supported by the Government Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad.
The conference will be officially opened by H. E. Dr Helena Jaklitsch, Minister for Slovenians Abroad, Republic of Slovenia Government Office for Slovenians Abroad. We have a fantastic line-up of speakers at the event, some of them include:
- H. E. Mr Jurij Rifelj, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Australia
- Keynote speaker: Dr Julija Sardelić, Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand who will talk about “Being placed in the ‘out of place’? Rethinking the place(lessness) of marginalised citizens across the Globe in 2020”
